C7: Munich to Venice via Innsbruck and Lake Garda (Day Seventeen)

Wake Up: 7am
Date: 14/09/2011
Weather: Raining
Location: Munich

Our first target from Munich in the morning is Innsbruck, Austria. Only a short stop off here to walk through the town site to see the Golden Roof and visit the flagship Swarowski store. Shrimp said “Swar-whatsky?” on the way, but he spent three times as much as me! Then a sleepy drive through Italia to North East Italy. It was very hot in Lake Garda, approximately 12 degrees hotter than Munich.

Ali’s Italian Challenge #1: How many different flavours of Gelato can you eat? Rules-you must start and finish every scoop yourself, no sharesie’s with your peeps. No doubling up on flavours. Each flavour must be photographed for proof, as with the scoops and the empty containers. You cannot only eat half a scoop and throw the rest in the bin. It was easy to me. We had 4 days in Italy after all!

Alas, I gorged myself and failed at the first step by ordering a much too larger cup for my gelato, just short of a litre I swear! After 6 flavours I was ready to vomit and hating gelato for eternity so I gave up. But the water was nice at Lake Garda and it was overlooked by an old and beautiful castle. It is said Lake Garda and the surrounding region is the inspiration for Romeo and Juliet. So gorgeous.

By sun down we were on our way to the mainland of Venice and bed.

I am in my mid twenties and fighting my battles to discover who I am and where I fit in to this zany, beautiful world. I was diagnosed with Lupus in in 2008. This takes up most of my focus, as I want to share the experience of trying to live with and rise above chronic invisible illness, so to speak. I would like to stress very much the information regarding medications, medical procedures and illnesses are discussed from my point of view, and with my understanding, colloquialisms and metaphors. I do not attempt to be legally and precisely accurate for the general population, rather I try to be emotionally and descriptively true to my experiences. I hope I can help in understanding others with chronic illness by providing one more personal recount of just how spontaneous and difficult these lives really are. One day I hope to visit every continent, climb some pretty high mountains, sleep in an ice cavern, marry a wonderfully understanding man, have children and teach more children. Mostly, I just want a simple life, you know the house with a husband and kids. Oh, and no pain.
